Recommended Devices
Microchip offers a wide variety of options, and they continue to add new options either organically or through acquisitions. In many respects, a general-purpose device can be used for most applications, the range of devices we work with has been selected to cater to most applications or to suit the niche requirements of a specific application.
Many of our projects use the PIC16F887 or the PIC18F45K22 and through the Pass the Torch series we have been introducing Microchip's recommended replacement the PIC16F18877. This device is part of a whole family of devices as listed below.
The following device families have scope in the projects or solutions that we offer:628
16F Series 18 PIN
- PIC16F628
- PIC16F1827 / PIC16F1847
16F Series 40 PIN
- PIC16F877A
- PIC16F887
18F Series Family 28 | 40
- PIC18F45K22
- PIC18F47K42
18F Series Family 48 PIN
- PIC18F57K42
The series has introduced the #PIC16F18877 family of devices as a viable and competent choice in replacing the #PIC16F887. As shown in the table below, the family offers a range of choices, all of which are supported by the #Radix Family of PIC Development PCBs.
One of the key advantages is that any code written for a device in the family, can in theory be deployed to another device in the family, whether this requires more or less resources.
- Radix Nano 18 - there is no 18 PIN device in the family
- Radix Nano 20 A and B PIC16F18313, PIC16F18325
- Radix Nano 28 A and B PIC16F18855, PIC16F18857
- Radix Duo and Sepia PIC16F18876, PIC16F18877
- Radix Echo - there is no device in the family
